Enduro Adventure



It's no secret that the iconic motorcycle brand has been moving in a new direction. But for us mere mortals, standing on a big bike takes a lot more bravery, mainly because if the bike starts to topple, by the time you've sat down and put your legs out to steady the bike, it will be already heading to the ground and you are not going to stop 200kg with a dab.

Several manufacturers modify street motorcycles to make them more dirt worthy. The Bokeh combines an aluminium frame and carbon fork with all the key ingredients of an adventure bike, including wide tyres, disc brakes, thru-axles, relaxed geometry and mounts for mudguards and racks.

At the adventure end of the spectrum, these are the rugged successors to traditional long-distance touring bikes. All riders must ride in groups of at least two. Over 95% of the world's roads are unpaved, so if you don't like to (or can't) ride in the dirt, you'll find yourself confined to a mere 5% of the planet.

A new, modern TFT dash has been implemented, switchgear is backlit (we love this), and an Off-Road Pro rider mode will help make the behemoth a little more sure footed on the dirt. Selecting the best Adventure Bike always depends on each individual's riding experience, budget and the intended usage of the bike.

Fast forward to 2019 and BMW have replaced it with the evolutionary R1250GS The bike is essentially the same winning formula as before but gets a brand new engine with Variable Valve Timing tech (BMW ShiftCam). Well, most seasoned adventure riders will agree that there is a lot more to it than that.

There are no valve probs with the a media beat up. It is a smooth road bike with adventure stylingThe problem is it is too heavy ,not the right sort of for general touring on road and will handle rough roads, dry packed dirt but not sand or mud or grass.

At one end, you can fit out an Enduro bike with luggage and head for the hills; at the other, you have large capacity road bikes with an extra bit of suspension travel and a high front mudguard. Some manufacturers approached the trend from the opposite direction, beginning with a street motorcycle and modifying it for adequate off-road performance.

The Tiger 800 range delivers maximum adventure every day, off-road and on-road, and the Tiger 1200 motorcycles are truly epic bikes built to take you everywhere, in first-class comfort and style. Overall, Harley claims it will bring 16 new models to market in the next five years, all part of an effort to recruit two million new riders in this country by 2027.

Before, the Multistrada was very much a comfy 160 hp road bike - but thanks to some successful re-engineering from Ducati, the new Enduro model is a ferocious off-roader that can genuinely tackle off-road trails…and with remarkable ease. Even though dual sport bikes are different from adventure bikes and should not be included in the adventure category, there are some nice motorcycles for new adventurers.

A few models are described as "adventure bikes". Despite these differences in terminology, these models can be described as dual-sports, which are street-legal motorcycles that can be operated on pavement, dirt roads and trails. If you are taking motorcycle adventure on an long trip multi day trip with large sections of off-roads action, you need to be super frugal on your packing.

Couple that engine with new modern features such as electronic suspension and dynamic traction control and you've got a motorcycle that handle exceptionally well at very slow speed, which is very important when you're navigating across difficult terrain.
